Fastest path to a key
- KYC / business checkOpen a Zerodha trading + demat account (online KYC: PAN, Aadhaar e-sign, bank proof, in-person verification by video/selfie). Takes 1-3 days
- Email verificationSign up on developers.kite.trade (separate developer account), verify email
- Create an app: pick Personal (free, orders/portfolio only, no market data) or Connect (Rs 500/month per key, includes live and historical data). Paid apps need wallet credits topped up
- Set the redirect URL, get api_key + api_secret
- Whitelist a static IP in the app settings before any order can be placed (SEBI retail-algo framework, mandatory since 1 Apr 2026)
- Phone OTPEvery day: open kite.zerodha.com/connect/login?v=3&api_key=..., log in with Zerodha user ID, password and TOTP 2FA, then capture request_token from the redirect
- POST /session/token with checksum SHA-256(api_key+request_token+api_secret) to get the access_token. It expires at 6 AM the next day

The daily access-token expiry at 6 AM with mandatory 2FA, plus no llms.txt/OpenAPI and no sandbox. Agents trade against real money with no test mode
